A residential multistory building is selected to be designed for gravity and lateral loadings. The building is located in Nablus city and is composed of 5 floors with a total area of 1597 m2. This structure is to be designed so to behave satisfactorily and safely under the estimated design loadings for its expected life time.

By the end of this project a better engineering sense is to be developed, and both hand and computer calculations are to be used, skills and  ways of thinking of and analyzing structures are to be developed.

The project has two parts: In part 1, load estimation, conceptual design, 3D modeling, and check for modal analysis are considered. In part 2, the analysis and design for gravity and dynamic loads  is continued and  structural detailing is produced. Design codes are to be used such as ACI318, ASCE07, IBC2009, and UBC97.

(by God's will) computer applications is to be used as tools to help in the design phases, and then verification of  the solutions using logic and sense and manual calculations is made. Finally conclusions and recommendations are made.
