A deep sense can be defined as the art of foundation engineering, design and testing of building elements that carry weights of structure to the soil or rock infra structure. Based on that, the foundations are the most important part in the structure.

The engineer responsible for foundations large and dangerous can not afford mistakes, which may result in the collapse of the entire building.

The foundations of modern engineering are the application of soil mechanics and rock mechanics, geology and engineering of concrete structures and steel.

The most important part is the selection of appropriate foundation type, such as the use of deep foundations or shallow foundations. It also includes foundation engineering structural design of the dimensions of the expense of the rules and the appropriate amount of reinforcing steel.

In spite of the tremendous scientific development today we are still the basis of soil mechanics which is based on the science foundation engineering, mainly since it placed the since Carl Trzaki used so far.

The fast growing of population in Nablus city forced people to deal with areas that are not suitable for buildings such as agricultural lands. One of these areas is the so called "Al-Basateen" area in the middle of Nablus city.

Our project is to design foundation for a multistory "Al-Ata'a" commercial building in "Al-Basateen" area. This project is important because of the soil condition which is expected to show several problems such as low strength, high consolidation and swelling, and problems related to the existence of water table.

A study of the soil condition will be undertaken before a complete design of the foundation and calculation of settlement are offered

As mentioned earlier, AL-ATTA' commercial is a multi-stories building of twelve stories. Next figures show a model for this building, cross section of the main building and columns plan.
