Water is the most important thing in our life. Also the disposal of wastewater produced by different sources, among which domestic, is of importance.
In our country, the sewerage problems facing the communities are serious and have a significant impact on the environment, domestic wastewater characteristics are influenced by water consumption rate, population density and social habits.
Asira Ash-Shamaliya is one of the villages which have not been served by a wastewater collection system (WWCS), which causes some environmental problems like, bad view, stinky smells and insects’ occupation.
This project aims to design a WWCS to get rid of the environmental problems caused by the domestic wastewater generated in Asira Ash-Shamaliya village.
The disposal of wastewater in Asira Ash-Shamaliya is done by cesspits, which causes a lot of environmental threats; like groundwater contamination, prevalence of some diseases, pollution of the soil and in addition to all of that stinky smells. This situation compiled the motivation to study the wastewater problem in Asira Ash-Shamaliya and to solve it by designing a WWCS.
The main aim of this study is to design a wastewater collection system for Asira Ash-Shamaliya; in light of the above, the following objective will be achieved:
1. Determine the amount of wastewater generated in Asira Ash- Shamaliya.
2. Design of WWCS.
3. Laying out the designed WWCS.
To achieve the objectives of this research study, firstly research needs and objectives were identified, and the area including the geography, topography, climate, population and the factors affecting water consumption and wastewater generation were studied. The quantity of wastewater generation was estimated. All relevant data were collected from reports, contour drawings. In addition to field visits which were conducted to be familiar with environmental problems related to the lack of WWCS. Excel, SewerCAD and AutoCAD were utilized in analyzing the collected data.
SewerCAD was selected to model the WWCS, AutoCAD was used to determine elevations and areas, all needed data (e.g. pipe diameters, nodes elevations, manholes locations, etc) were managed and incorporated to an excel sheet, then EXCEL did all calculations.
