This project aims to analyze the safety performance of the transportation network in the CBD area of Nablus City including the extension of some major arterials and propose effective and efficient countermeasures or treatments.
In order to achieve the study objectives, traffic data, geometric data and accident records are essential requirements. After collecting all the necessary data, the traffic conditions in the study area will be analyzed by estimating the average delay along the network using program software. Simultaneously, accident records will be projected on the map of the city using the Geographic Information System (GIS). By relating the geometric data, accident rates and traffic flow parameters, the significant influencing factors can be identified through specific statistical tests.
The previous work will open the way to design some countermeasures or treatments in order to reduce estimated accident rates. These treatments may include geometric layout adjustments (i.e. design of channelization); improving traffic operations and possibly using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) or provide information to drivers to assist them in avoiding risking behavior.
