This project is a sanitation study of Al-Tayba village. Therefore a questionnaire is applied, covering many subjects, such as: the economical and social situation, the water consumption, wastewater disposal and solid waste disposal. Furthermore, the main subject of the project contains the design of a sewer network system, considering the wastewater generation and the topography of the study area.

It also includes a schematic design of a wastewater treatment plant.

General

The wide usage of natural resources increases the water, soil and air pollution. This encourages to study the environmental pollution, in terms of casual factors and efficient treatment, in order to create better sanitation for humans.

The sanitation study includes studying many situations, such as: the economical situation, the social situation, public health and the environmental pollution, which are affected by the location of study area, and the scientific degree.

By using water in many aspects of the daily life, like: drinking, washing, cooking, and others, the amount of wastewater increases. Wastewater is one of the main causes of environmental pollution. The wastewater network system is an ideal way for disposal and convey it to the treatment plant. The treatment decreases the organic load to be acceptable for the environment, or to be used in agriculture and industry.

Al-Tayba village is located in the north of the West Bank, 18 km northwest of the city of Jenin. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of statistics (PCBS) , the village has a population of 2407 inhabitants in 2011.

Al-Tayba does not have any infrastructure for the wastewater network system. The current usage of cesspits has many negative effects on the groundwater and on thesurrounding environment.

Objectives

The main objectives of this Bsc graduation Project are:

1. The evaluation of the sanitation situation of a Al-Tayba village

2. Designing a sewer network system using SewerCAD

5

3. The schematic design of a wastewater treatment plant

4. An attempt to explain for the small society the advantage of reusing

wastewater, and adress the bad opinion towards the reuse of wastewater in agriculture
