This course looks at the role of failure prevention in Mechanical design, stress and deformation, classical theories of failure, notches and notch sensitivity, fracture Mechanics such as the Rowan–Irwin relationship, linear elastic fracture mechanics, elastic stress field approach, energy balance approach, J-Integral, fatigue including low cycle fainting, high cycle fatigue, remaining life and some mathematical models.
