The Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at An-Najah Participates in the 24th POMS International Conference in the United States.
Dr. Ayham Jaaron, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at An-Najah University, participated in the 24th Production and Operations Management (POMS) international Conference held in Denver, USA, in the period of May 3rd and 6th 2013.
The Conference was held at the Marriott Denver City Centre and included more than 1150 researchers representing more than 90 different countries. The theme of the 24th annual conference, Integrating Practice in POM Research and Teaching was presented through 23 tracks and 2 Plenary Sessions. Of particular interest this year is the developments of the half plenary sessions that showcase the increasing level of influence that practicing managers have on driving POM research and teaching.
Dr. Jaaron participated with a paper which he co-authored with Professor Chris Backhouse, Vice President of Loughborough University for Strategic Planning in the UK.
The paper was titled “Enhancing service organizations resilience through systems thinking” in which the researcher uses the systems thinking principles to designing service operations for enhancing organisational resilience. Two case studies were conducted in two British service organisations in this research. Results show that systems thinking operationalized two-dimensional determinants for improving organisational resilience; organically structured organisation, and highly affectively committed employees.
The success of Dr. Jaaron participation at the 2013 Denver conference relied on the extensive collaboration opportunities that have been discussed with a number of well renowned researchers in the field of POM. In addition, Dr. Jaaron was chosen by the organizing committee of the conference to chair the service operations track for recognizing his new membership in the POMS.
This conference is among the most significant events that are organized to discuss production and operations management (POM) and is organized by the American Production and Operations Management Society (POMS).
