An-Najah National University honors students of the Engineering Faculty awarded first-place prize of “Made in Palestine” Contest
On Thursday 27th of December 2012, the University’s Faculty of Engineering celebrated the winning of first-place prize in “Made in Palestine” contest of 2012 and honored the participant students in the Engineering Faculty hall. The contest was organized by the institution of Al-Nayzak for Supportive Education and Scientific Innovation within a partnership with Diakonia International Institution. The students: Mohammad Munasereh, Afnan Hamad, Marah Jamous, and Rahal Rasheed, from Chemical Engineering Department, won first place by virtue of the project they proposed under the title of “Transferring Plastic Waste into Liquid Fuel”.
President of the University Prof Dr. Rami Hamdallah and Vice President for Academic Affairs Prof. Maher Al-Natsheh headed honoring ceremony. Among the attendees were also Dr. Ahmad Al-Rumhi, Dean of Engineering Faculty, Instructor of chemical engineering, Shadi Sawalah the supervisor of the participating students, and members of the teaching staff from the Faculty. Instructor Mohammad Dwikat was the master of ceremony.
In his word, President of the University congratulated the students on their achievement, and expressed that he is so proud of them and all other creative students. He also thanked the Engineering Faculty for its successive achievements, and stressed that this particular achievement needs to be approved as patent for invention which should be invested in research and applied as a concrete product.
Prof. Dr. Rami Hamdallah added that graduates of the Engineering Faculty are among the candidates that national and international institutions seek the most, for different job opportunities and critical positions which reflects the high quality of the educational system the University offers.
By the same token, Prof. Hamdallah explained that the University seeks to invest more within the Engineering Faculty by establishing more specialties that meet the needs of the local market in a modern manner that can accommodate for international advancements. He also pointed out that the achievements of An-Najah’s students provide evidence of success of the academic process the University adopts toward applied sciences and scientific research.
In return, Dr. Rumhi, Dean of the Engineering Faculty, thanked President of University for the due attention he pays to the Faculty and the infrastructure necessary for the educational process. Instructor Shadi Sawalah and the students responsible of the project “Transferring Plastic Waste into Liquid Fuel” is attributed, explained the idea of the project and answered the inquires addressed by the audience.
At the end of the ceremony, the aforementioned students received appreciation plaques, and Instructor Shadi Sawalha was also honored for his remarkable efforts.
