Dr. Ayham Jaaron, Head of the Industrial Engineering Department at An-Najah University, participated in the Fourth International Conference for the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS-HK) in Hong Kong.
The Conference was held at the City University of Hong Kong, during the period of 3-4 January 2013, in which a large number of researchers from different parts of the world participated including United Kingdom, Sweden, Australia, United States, Ukraine, Singapore, Mainland China, Malaysia and others.
The Conference’s main theme was centered on the interdisciplinary nature of Production and Operations Management. The interaction of operations with other functional areas such as R&D, engineering, marketing, finance, accounting, personnel, strategy, and information systems have become increasingly important. The conference also provided a special sessions for operations management in the higher education sector and quality systems in education institutions. The theme of the meeting, Interdisciplinary POM, recognizes such a trend. The Fourth POMS-HK International Conference provided a forum for practitioners and academics to share their research, experience, and insights on thematic areas as well as traditional POM problems.
Dr. Jaaron participated with a research paper that aimed at investigating the role of ABET quality assurance program for engineering education in recognizing deficiencies in the educational process. A case study was conducted in the Engineering Faculty of An-Najah National University using student surveys, instructors assessment documents, and semi-structured interviews at different administrative levels. Results show that ABET quality assurance program allowed for the identification of development opportunities in terms of students’ attainments, stakeholders’ satisfaction, safety instructions and educational process documentation. The value of this paper was that it attempts to incorporate the role of ABET as a quality assurance program with revealing educational process deficiencies to promote stakeholders satisfaction.
Dr. Jaaron co-authored his research paper in cooperation with Engineer Farouq Halaweh and Engineer Basheer Shahin from the ABET Centre at the Engineering Faculty of An-Najah. It is worth mentioning that this paper is one of 190 other papers that were chosen for presentation at this conference.
