In control lab there are four main units (two units of each one), the units are:
-
Simatic Trainer, PLC S5-95U: The PLC is a programmable device can be connected to computer. It consists of CPU, inputs, outputs and power supply. The input signal either for switches or sensors and the output voltage can drive relay or contact.
-
Pneumatic system unit: Pneumatics is a branch of technology that deals with the study and application of use of pressurised gas to affect mechanical motion. The pneumatic trainer in the lab consists of the following components:
-
Pressure gauge: Pressure gauges convert pressure into a dial reading.
-
Conditioning unit: It consists of a main shut-off valve, filter, pressure regulator, pressure and a 4-port main fold.
-
Valves: Valves are used to control flow and/or direction. Some valves have two ports. Others have more.
-
Directional valve:These are double air pilot operated.
-
Cylinders and load devices: Cylinders are actuators that convert fluid energy into linear mechanical power. One of the cylinders of the trainer is a double-acting type because it works in both the extension and retraction stroke of the piston rod. The other cylinder is a spring return type. The load device is to measure the force generated by the cylinders.
-
Accumulator: Accumulators are receivers that are used to store pressurised air in a pneumatic system
-
Long Line Device: The long line device is used to generate friction in a circuit.
-
-
Controllers Unit: In this unit there are many plants like first and second order plants, P and PID controllers, sampled and hold elements, simulated controlled system and other components. In this unit, we use experiments to understand the unit step response of first and second order system, to understand the open loop and closed loop concept, to study types of controllers and the effect of each type on the control system.
-
Three phase Unit: This Unit consists of many parts like the automatic circuit breaker, push button switches, contactors and the three phase synchronous motors timers. This unit offers the capacity to understand the operations of NO, NC and contactor latching, how to control the direction and speed of motors and how to use on and off delay timers in many applications .
