Abstract

Continuous monitoring of vital parameters is an important aspect of medical practice and recent advancements in mobile and wireless technologies have the potential to significantly improve the quality of monitoring the vital signs of patients. The proposes of this system that combines the use of sensor technology with mobile and wireless technology to realize a remote heart rate monitoring system. The prototype design incorporates the use of a pulse sensor, a Web-based portal and an Android mobile application interface to enable the monitoring of the patient’s heart rate. After testing the prototype, the results of the tests show the feasibility of the system design and its capability to improve the flexibility of the patient monitoring process for health professionals.
