The increasing demand for wireless data services and continuous growth of multimedia applications made straightforward the evolution to third generation networks, named UMTS (Universal Mobile Terrestrial System) which offer high data rates up to 2Mbps and 384Kbps, UMTS has been successfully adopted by wireless operators to be in service now by 169 operators worldwide, where 69 others are in planning. In this research we decided to design 3G radio network planning; and this is the main idea of our research.

Before starting or design of 3G radio network planning, we collect some useful information for our design using digitized map for obtaining area distribution and for forecast subscriber profile perform coverage and capacity dimensioning process, also we get some information about Population density from the Palestinian bureau of statistics.

In this part of our project we started by selecting a Palestinian city which is   Qalqilya

,then we carried out important calculation to finally prepared our subscriber profile,  by using software tools in jawwal company which make the necessary calculations for getting the number of sites needed to this city .

For Qalqilya city we've found that 15 sites are required to be installed to meet the given capacity requirements, on the other hand 12 sites are for coverage. By this result we should make our decision about how many sites will be implemented.

So, based on balance strategy, we will decide to have 15 sites to meet coverage and capacity for Qalqilya city.

At final stage of implementing our project we have to be sure that our proposed 3G network is suitable not only for the first year of running the 3G services over the deployed network, our design take in consideration the growth of subscribers number and their demand, by the end of our project we will make a drive test in practical way by  using programmed tools  to insure that our plan can serve the tested are.
