A Convention and Exhibition Center is a civic-public building in which conventions and exhibitions events are held in specially designed architectural spaces .it consist of two main functions which are convention and exhibition in addition to their supporting services.
The main functions of the center requires large areas and Great heights in order to function properly, this generated the need for a large site preferably away from the high urban density of the city for two main reasons, first it generates traffic when functioning therefore it should be away from the actual traffic of the city in an open area. Second, the possible users and visitors may be from inside and outside the city of Nablus therefore it should be in an easily reached space close to all comers, that’s why the site was chosen to be close to the main entrance of the city of Nablus.
The project was designed mainly as a multi-functional complex distributed fragmentally over the large site area-instead of a huge building with some design key word in consideration
1-Fragmented design: separating functions and gathering them around a central plaza which helps the building to serve as a truly public building as well as a civic one, and connecting them with a series of elevated balconies and activity platforms to make the building approachable and attract people to go inside. Also the fragmented design is the best for the building to blend with the surrounding open area.
2-Form follow function: total separation of services, cars , pedestrian movements and entrances helped deciding the best zoning for function on site, taking in consideration each of their requirements.
3-Flexibility: by providing various choices of meeting rooms, indoor and outdoor exhibition space .and this is also achieved by the ability to use each function separately which may help running the project at all times
4- Visitors experience enhancement: though design elements.
