This part aims to explain fundamental concepts of Public transportation monitoring system "PTMS" project. By implementing this project on the public transportation vehicles, wide applications might be used like monitoring the speed of the vehicles and make sure the vehicles are committed to the traffic laws, these information may be used in building statistics for other studies.

It is important to answer these questions: About what the application will be? Why do we need these applications in our life?  How the application will contribute in enhancing our daily life? And how the police and other governmental organizations work quality will be affected positively by this project in terms of reducing time, cost and risks within challenges?

The world is witnessing at this time a dramatic evolution in various fields of technology. Engineers work everywhere on implementing real life technologies to increase human well-being and solve real daily problems to serve and protect the humans from threats and risks. The world suffers from major problems like the wars, natural disasters, global warming, pollution…etc. And one of these problems that kill millions of people and cause huge economic losses per year is the traffic accidents.

In Palestine we suffer every day from traffic accidents problem and many people are killed every year due to indifference, high Speed, and exceeding the public transportation vehicles capacity of passengers. Our goal is to design a system to reduce the number of accidents on the roads between Palestinian cities in general and between Ramallah and Nablus in specific. Knowing the driver that he will be monitored during the trip, that would be enough to keep him vigilant and committed to the traffic laws. This system helps the police to track violations of traffic laws by adding a device to the public transportation vehicles to record the speed of the car and all the information related to vehicle's safety and the exact number of the passengers during trip to deliver automatically a report to the Palestinian police at stop stations.

The system database could be used in statistical analysis that aims to specify the unpaved roads and the roads that require waiting rooms for example. This project employs the Wi-Fi technology as the communication media. The system operation is monitoring the speed of the vehicle and gathering information related to vehicle's safety and number of passengers during the trip. Then the device will deliver automatically a report to the access point placed in the stop station then sent to the central server to be checked by the police.
