Recipe Formulation and Lab Production of Specialized Olive Oil Based Bar Soap

Olive oil based bar soap manufacturing is one of the most important industries in Palestine, the development of this industry becomes an essential need in order to develop the marketing of this kind of soap, so this project will share in improving the olive oil based bar soap by adding herbs and its oil.


The main objectives of this project are to perform market, technical and economic studies which can assist in evaluating the feasibility of producing specialized solid olive oil based soap then to form a recipe of specialized olive oil soap, and to produce many types of olive oil based bar soap with herbal additives.

Virgin olive oil, water, and sodium hydroxide and coconut oil were the raw material that used in the project.

By using the hot process, virgin olive oil, water, and sodium hydroxide were mixed in a large vessel in mixing stage, after mixing stage the mixture was entered in saponification stage, in this stage formation of soap started.

The last stage was washing stage this stage include washing the soap from excess soda by adding a solution of salt and water.

Last stage followed with addition of herbs and its oil .All these stages took from three to four hours.

Different herbs and oils were used in the product soap such as thyme, black cumin, lavender, lemon and avocado.

To know the properties and benefits of this product on the skin, twenty questioner was distributed .The result of this questioner was very good with some notes that was avoided and corrected.


By making economic studies the cost of one kg of black cumin soap was 5.2$ which was the highest cost, and the cost of one kg of olive oil without additives was 4.5$ and it was the lowest cost.  By scaling up the product and designing the equipments,  founded that this plant needs  a tank 3.8m3 volume, and needs propeller three blades mixer,  the power of this mixer was 35.
