Construction equipment are one of the most important factors that affect the efficiency, quality, sticking with the work schedules and on time accomplishment of different construction works.
The study will take the highway construction equipment as a special case.
Different stages in roads and highways construction works need different types of equipment; as the beginning in the earthworks needs equipment specialized in excavating, earth filling removal, bringing, spreading and compacting new types of soil for the different layers of the road. The final stages in road construction need very important equipment to get the work done which we will go through later in this study.
Several objectives for the study have been set, which will be:
1. Identify types of equipment used in highway construction works.
2. Find the factors that impact on equipment productivity.
3. Minimizing problems associated with low productivity and how productivity will be improved.
4. Identify criteria for construction equipment selection and develop model for that selection based on Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP).
At the completion of this study, it will be possible to minimize many problems associated with highway construction equipment and will make decisions on what equipment to be chosen easier for the construction companies.
This study will be carried out through sites visiting and distributing questionnaires that will be distributed to different construction companies, and then analyzed.
