The main aims of this project are to study solid waste management including hazardous waste as a case study. Limited resources coupled with a fast growing population cause a high pressure on the environment which results in many environmental problems. The healthcare and hazardous wastes are obvious components of such problems.

Data was collected and analyzed from Literature to identify the extent of the problem and its related issues. Many expert meetings were conducted as well as field visits such as environmental ministry. Comparative analysis of Palestinian and regional waste legislation, quantities, treatment and management practices were conducted.

The results revealed five proposed methods for solid waste management (Reduce, Reuse, Refuse, Recycle, Incineration, and Landfill) that would help the Palestinian health sector to enhance and develop health and environmental service. The proposed management methods, including new approaches for collection, separation, storage, transportation, treatments and disposal of solid waste, will minimize health and environmental risk.

Medical waste and scrap tires are studied as case study. The studies clarify the definition, classification, legislation and treatment of hazardous waste. Then the studies clarify about some special types of hazardous waste such as tires and medical wastes.
