The project is structural analysis and design of the Advanced Technology Building in Hebron University. The building is nine multifunctional floors of reinforced concrete with 5cm expansion joint between the two parts of the building. The functions of the floors are differing from parking, lecture halls, labs, offices, and stairs.

The project is based on re-design of the building using American Concrete Institute’s Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI-2014), Uniform Building Code (UBC 97 Volume 2), and Jordanian Code for Loads – 2006.

In graduation project 1, all the works were to calculate all loads on the building from dead, super imposed, live, earthquake, and wind loads, and determine all factors needed for seismic design. After that, there was a preliminary design for slabs, beams, and columns, and all checks needed are done. Finally, all ultimate and service load combinations are prepared as mentioned in the UBC and ACI codes, and a three-dimensional model for the two parts of the building were prepared for design in graduation project 2.

In graduation project 2, the models were prepared on ETABS program, so the design stage was started by check the columns and beams and their dimensions, some changes on them were done like add or eliminate columns and beams on the model. The functions of dynamic base shears were defined. All codes requirements were taken into consideration in this project. The slabs are designed as two-way solid slabs for part 1, and one-way slabs for part 2 of the building. The beams in the building had many dimensions according to the loads carried by them. The columns also had many dimensions to accommodate the loads. The footings were designed as mat foundation for part 1 and strip footing for part 2. The shear walls surrounding the building from all sides also had designed. Finally, reinforcement sheets were prepared for all the structural elements in the building.

There are many programs used in the project, and they are:

·          SAP 2000 V18.1.1: used for analysis of the two-way slab in part 1 and take the shear and moment values needed for the design.

·         ETABS 2015 V15.2.0: used to build the three-dimensional models of the building, and for design of the slabs, beams, columns, and shear walls.

·         SAFE 2014 V14.1.1: used for design of the mat foundation and strip footing.

·         AutoCAD: used for preparing all plans and reinforcement sheets of structural elements.
