The Impact of New Road Connection on Road Network

Nablus is one of largest and important cities in Palestine; it is the capital of Palestinian trade and culture. Therefore, Nablus attracts large number of trips. As a result, traffic congestion have continuous increment on the major links (streets) and nodes (intersections), which leads to many other related problems such as excessive delays and accidents.
This study aims to assess the impact of new road construction. The proposed new connection located at Al-Basateen area at the western part of Nablus City. In addition, this research focused on the effects of this new road on the surrounding area.
These objectives would be achieved through using cordon method and applying traffic counting before and after the implementation of this new road, then analyzing the collected data of traffic volumes at network by using Synchro (8) Software in order to determine their traffic characteristics such as level of service (LOS), V/C ratio, delay per approach vehicle and signal timing suitability.
The results of the project will indicate the effectiveness of the new constructed road and its effects on the above-mentioned traffic characteristics on study area.
The second step after the analysis is the remedial actions. These actions suggested to improve the serviceability for the intersections were affected by new connection and has LOSs (E) or worst.
