Range of Experiments
- Determine ground and wall reactions as a body moves up a ladder.
- Experimental verification of calculations using the three conditions of equilibrium
Description
A simulated ladder with rollers at each end is supported in the HST1 Frame by a ground plate and a wall plate. Vertical and horizontal reactions are provided by cords tensioned by weights. A sliding weight can be clamped at selected positions on the ladder while equilibrium is established. To prevent collapse of the ladder it is loosely restrained at the top. The set of weights needed for the experiment is included. Software is accessible for processing results.
This equipment is part of a range designed to both demonstrate and experimentally confirm basic engineering principles. Great care has been given to each item so as to provide wide experimental scope without unduly complicating or compromising the design. Setting up time is minimal, and all measurements are made with the simplest possible instrumentation, so that the student involvement is purely with the engineering principles being taught.
